Recortando a Cervantes

Recortando a Cervantes

With the aim of bringing significant characters of Cervantes' work closer to the general public through play and interaction, the Foundation proposed this educational activity for which ten real size cut-outs were drawn by the leading Spanish illustrator, Fernando Vicente, winner of three Awards of Excellence by the Society for News Design.

The activity consists in bringing back to life 12 Cervantine characters (La gitanilla, El licenciado vidriera, Rinconete y Cortadillo, La ilustre fregona, El celoso extremeño, Cipión y Berganza, Galatea y, por supuesto, Don Quijote, Sancho y Dulcinea) in life-size cut-outs, featuring, on the underside, a Cervantes’ fragment illustrating one of these characters and thus let the visitors find out more about each of them.

Thanks to the collaboration of the Fundación Biblioteca Virtual Cervantes, an app called Recortando a Cervantes has been designed, from where any user can download the complete texts where the characters of Cervantes are depicted. In addition, thanks to the interest aroused, the Ministry of Education, through its webpage leer.es, has created educational materials about these Cervantes characters, thus promoting a national educational campaign.
