Andanzas y entremeses de Juan Rana

The Holy Inquisition celebrates a secret trial. The accused: Juan Rana, the most famous comedian of the Golden Age. The crime: making various generations of the public laugh with his irreverent (or disrespectful) and mocking humour. The proof: a selection of appetisers from the greatest authors of the era (Calderón de la Barca and Agustín Moreto, amongst others) who featured the great actor as the protagonist. The accusations: blasphemy, disrespect, irreverence, provocation, critical thinking (or a critical spirit) and heresy. Possible sentence: Death by burning.

Juan Rana: a festival of short performances with live music, a reflection on the limits of humour and a tribute to an essential figure of Spanish Golden Age theatre.

La Santa Inquisición celebra un juicio secreto. El acusado: Juan Rana, el comediante más célebre del Siglo de Oro. El delito: hacer reír al público de varias generaciones con su humor irreverente y burlesco. Las pruebas: una selección de entremeses de los más grandes autores de la época (Calderón de la Barca y Agustín Moreto, entre otros) que tuvieron como protagonista al genial actor. Las acusaciones: blasfemia, desacato, irreverencia, provocación, espíritu crítico, herejía… Posible condena: la hoguera.
